Take the loose end of your alligator clip and attach it to another part of the object.
Now your object is fully incorporated into your circuit. If the material is conductive, electricity should flow freely through it and turn the LED on. If the material is not conductive, then it will prevent electricity from moving through your circuit and the LED will not turn on.
